Andrew Pratt is one of our foremost contemporary hymn writers. After completing a MSc in Marine Biology he went into science teaching and from there into the Methodist ministry. Throughout his ministry he has written hymns as a means of theological exploration and has published several collections of his own hymns and edited collections of other people’s. 9 of his hymns are in Singing the Faith (the current Methodist hymn book). Through his writing he has developed an interest in more general hymnody and completed a PhD researching the origins of the Methodist Hymn Book of 1933.
He now writes a regular blog (at this link) which includes hymns written in response to a many contemporary events and issues. In response to his involvement in Science and the Language of Prayer he has tagged his hymns and poems which relate to science and they can be accessed through this link.
Andrew will serve as hymn writer in residence for the seminars with the intention of writing a hymn in response to each of the keynote talks.
